Fauna: Beaver den and unidentifiable animal?

I spy with my little eye...something that is brown.

A beaver den!
Look how it is frozen in place. 
Then again, dams are usually "in place"
At Woolfrey's Pond behind my house.

What's that hiding behind the trees?
