I've noticed there are a lot of places in Newfoundland with Dildo St., Rd., and there is even a town named Dildo. I thought maybe dildo was suppose to be something else and later evolved into the word we know today for the phallic object. When I researched it, it turns out, the origin of the word dildo indeed means the phallic object, so the people who named those streets and places were just being cheeky. Apparently, the town of Dildo here in Newfoundland is named Dildo, because the land mass drawn out on the map is long and phallic like, so the explorers naming the place were just being descriptive.
